On Purpose

This may come as a shock to some, but we were not put on the planet to work, earn money, retire, and spend the rest of our days on a beach or some other nice location relaxing. It sounds good, but it’s false.

You cannot retire from your purpose.

I remember John Maxwell, the great author, leadership coach, and pastor, told the story of how his father was in his 90’s. He had moved into a senior community, located a hall, and began to teach the word. Pretty soon, his father was holding two services on Sundays and they were being streamed all over the world. He was making the point that our purpose is not something we ever stop doing. Even in his 90’s, his father was preaching the word. He was doing what he was put on the planet to do. He wanted to do it. He loved to do it. He was built to do it.

You cannot retire from your purpose.

Jesus knew the reason that He was put on planet Earth. His mom had been preparing Him. They talked about it, and He was in tune with what GOD was speaking to Him. How do I know?

“3 And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine. 4 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come. 5 His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it. 6 And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece. 7 Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.” (John 2:3-7 King James Version).

As the above passage shows, mom knew what He was capable of doing and so did He. That’s why Jesus went ahead and gave instructions. He knew He was about to turn the water into wine. She knew Him to be the Son of GOD. That’s what the angel told her in the gospel of Luke 1:35; and in chapter two when she was told by the shepherds that her Son was the Savior, indeed Christ the Lord. It went on to say that she pondered those things in her heart. That’s a lot to take in, but her purpose was to bear and rear the Son of GOD, and that’s what she did.

Joseph is told in the gospel of Matthew that Mary is pregnant through the power of the Holy Ghost, and the child’s name would be Emmanuel meaning GOD with us (Matthew 1:20, 23). The gospel of Matthew also tells us that wise men brought the baby Jesus gifts and fell down and worshipped Him (Matthew 2:11). This all points to the family knowing Who He was and what His purpose would be from early in His life.

We also see evidence of Jesus knowing whom He was in the gospel of Luke. “49 And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?” (Luke 2:49 KJV). Verse 46 tells us that at 12 years old Jesus was sitting in the midst of the experts on biblical law, indeed the doctors, both asking and answering questions. He was getting His training, sharpening His skills, and preparing to do the LORD’s work.

Our Purpose

Do you know why you were put on this planet; the specific work that you are to do? We all have one purpose, and it is tied to the lives of others. Jesus was crucified and resurrected thereby saving us. That was His main purpose: to die for our sins and be resurrected from the dead, to leave the Holy Spirit with us to guide us forever just as He guided Him. Jesus also taught the gospel of the kingdom of Heaven, did many miracles, and showed us how to live according to GOD’s standards, but His main purpose was to die on our behalf.

What is your purpose? Are you fulfilling it, or running after things that people who don’t know GOD chase after? What does that mean?

“30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? 31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.” (Matthew 6:30-32 KJV).

It means:

  • GOD takes the time to create flowers more beautiful than the finest clothing a person can own. HE did that for flowers that are literally here today and gone tomorrow. If GOD treats HIS flowers that special, won’t you believe that HE will take care of us the crown of HIS creation made in HIS image and make sure that we don’t go without?

  • No worries over food, drink, clothes, survival, GOD has our back. HE will make sure we are provided for. Don’t believe me? Don’t have your own personal testimony of how HE has taken care of you? Just look at the disciples then. They all left their jobs to minister with Jesus. They had no income coming in. Yet, they never went hungry. They never lacked anything they truly needed. GOD does the same for us when we are on assignment for HIM.

  • Gentiles were people who didn’t know GOD. They didn’t acknowledge HIM, or have a personal relationship with HIM. They weren’t being provided for because they didn’t claim GOD as their Father. They didn’t go to HIM with their needs. They didn’t ask, therefore they didn’t receive.

  • We don’t have that problem. We believe. We claim GOD and HE claims us. Therefore, we are taken care of.

So, what’s the point? The point is that we don't have to ignore our purpose in pursuit of meeting our needs and going after the things we want. The bible says ask and we shall receive (Matthew 7:7) Ask today and watch GOD work.

“3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:” (2 Peter 1:3 KJV). We have everything we need for life and godliness. It has been given to us. Our backpack has been loaded with all the tools we require. Are we using them, or are they collecting dust while we chase after what GOD has already given us? “33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” (Matthew 6:33 KJV).

If we seek GOD first, if we seek ABBA first, our heavenly Father, if we approach HIM as HIS child, HE will take care of us. As soon as we stop depending on ourselves and trust GOD to take care of our needs, HE will. We have to get out of HIS way and let HIM be our Father. Won’t you go to HIM today? Won’t you seek HIM first and HIS will for your life? Won’t you allow HIM to provide for you as you submit to HIM and what HE wants you to do? HE’s waiting with open arms and a Father’s love. Do you trust HIM? Be blessed as you surrender all to HIM today, family.

“5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” (Hebrews 13:5 KJV). Amen (it is so, may it be fulfilled).

How to be Saved

Romans 10: 9-13

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved (KJV).

9 If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved. 11 As the Scriptures tell us, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.” 12 Jew and Gentile are the same in this respect. They have the same Lord, who gives generously to all who call on him. 13 For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (NLT).

Say the welcoming word to God—“Jesus is my Master”—embracing, body and soul, God’s work of doing in us what he did in raising Jesus from the dead. That’s it. You’re not “doing” anything; you’re simply calling out to God, trusting him to do it for you. That’s salvation. With your whole being you embrace God setting things right, and then you say it, right out loud: “God has set everything right between him and me!” 11-13 Scripture reassures us, “No one who trusts God like this—heart and soul—will ever regret it.” It’s exactly the same no matter what a person’s religious background may be: the same God for all of us, acting the same incredibly generous way to everyone who calls out for help. “Everyone who calls, ‘Help, God!’ gets help. (MSG).

Romans 5:8

8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (KJV)

8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. (NLT)

It is your belief that saves you, family. If you believe, you will speak what you believe and not be ashamed or embarrassed to do so, whether you are alone or among others. Simply talk to GOD. Say aloud to God:

“I confess all my sin known and unknown, and ask You, GOD, to forgive me. I believe Jesus was born of a virgin, crucified, died for my sins, and rose from the dead. Jesus, come into my heart and make me new in You. Save me, Lord! Jesus, you are Lord. Be Lord over my life. Thank You, GOD for Your forgiveness. Thank You, Jesus, for making me Your own. Amen.”

You are now saved. You may not feel different or you may. Just know that the internal change is taking place once you uttered that prayer in faith. Day by day, you will begin to be transformed into whom GOD wants and created you to be. You will care more about the things of GOD than your own personal desires, and you will want to share the word of GOD when you have the opportunity. Begin to read your bible daily, and learn about GOD's will for your life. If you are not already a member of a local church, I encourage you to pray and allow GOD to guide you to the right fellowship for you. The pastor will help you grow in your gifts and talents so that you can begin to use them for GOD’s glory, and you and the other members will encourage and help each other along this journey with GOD.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
