If You Love Me

“21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.” (John 14:21 King James Version)

Manifest means to show oneself, come to view, or appear. Bible theologians say, “Metaphorically of Christ giving evidence by the action of the Holy Spirit on the souls of the disciples that He is alive in heaven.” (Blue Letter Bible, Thayer’s Greek Lexicon).

Ever heard someone say they don’t hear from GOD, or they don’t have conversations with Jesus because they don’t hear anything? How can we hear from GOD or Jesus if we don’t love them and do what they say? That’s called rebellion. A rebellious child cannot hear what their parents are saying because they're caught up in their disobedience and wanting to have things their way. So, what their parents say goes in one ear and out the other, or falls on deaf ears altogether.

It is no different for us with GOD and Christ. Jesus tells us plainly that we will know that He is alive in heaven through the working of the Holy Spirit inside of us, but only if we keep His commands. Without keeping His commands, we may become doubtful of our standing with Christ, our relationship, our very salvation. Doubt will creep in and destroy the work the LORD has been doing in us all because we are caught up in this flesh of ours giving ourselves over to its lusts.

Paul says it like this,

And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; 2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: 3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. (Ephesians 2:1-3 KJV).

We were the walking dead, going to hell. In that wretched state, GOD made us alive because of HIS great love for us. We looked just like the world and not like children of GOD. We engaged in every manner of sin and incurred the wrath of GOD, but GOD! LORD have mercy! Look at the next verse. “4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, 5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;).” (Ephesians 2:4-5 KJV).

Again, GOD made us alive along with Christ when HE raised Him from the dead. When Christ died, so did our sinful selves. When Christ got up, so did we. We got up as saved and changed individuals when we confessed Christ and believed in our hearts.

This brings us back to John 14. If we love Christ, we’ll do what He tells us. Then we’ll see Him. We’ll talk with Him. We’ll feel His presence. We’ll know without doubt that we are saved and we’ll live our lives as a thank you for all He has done for us, as Christian music artist Darlene Zschech once said.

“22 Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?” (John 14:22 KJV). We see here that what Jesus said in verse 21 went over brother Judas’s head. Jesus had already answered his question before he asked it.

Jesus told them in verse 21 that He would manifest Himself to those who keep His commands. This means that because the disciples love Jesus and keep His commands, He will manifest Himself to them. The world, on the other hand, doesn’t believe in Jesus, acknowledge His authority or lordship over them, nor obey His commands. Indeed they cannot as the book of Romans tells us. “7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.” (Romans 8:7 KJV).

The carnal mind is what Paul spoke of in Colossians. It is in love with the world and the things in it. It is caught up in the desires of the flesh and mind like Ephesian 2 told us. It isn’t thinking about GOD. The book of Romans tells us that the carnal mind is in fact hostile to GOD. It resents being told by the preacher that it needs to straighten up and fly right. It doesn’t want to hear anything about living for GOD. It wants to live for what the world offers, temporary sensual pleasures that cannot truly satisfy as GOD can.

So, because the people who are carnally minded do not obey GOD, they will not see GOD or Christ. They aren’t worried about it. Jesus said all of this in verse 21, but Judas didn’t get it. So, he asked the question. Jesus, in His infinite patience and wisdom, repeated Himself in the next verse in response to Judas’s query.

“23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.” (John 14:23 KJV). It all comes down to obedience. That shows that we love Christ. It proves it. We know from the bible that GOD likes to see evidence, proof of loyalty. HE told Abraham to kill his son in Genesis 22. HE told Saul to destroy everything and everybody that was a part of the Amalekites in 1 Samuel 15. HE told Jonah to preach repentance to Nineveh in Jonah 1. As the book of James echoes, “17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.” (James 2:17 KJV).

Jesus was telling the disciples, and He is telling us that our love for Him will be proved and shown by our obedience. The deep part about it is that our obedience will cause every need to be met. You don’t believe me? Read Deuteronomy 28:1-14 and feast on the rewards of obedience.

Yet, even more wonderful than the promises of Deuteronomy 28, is the promise Jesus made in John 14. He said in verse 23 that He and GOD would come and make their home with us! They would live with us, dwell with us! They will abide with us! As my bishop just taught, abide means to hang out, and spend time. GOD and Christ will hang out and spend time with us! My, LORD!

“5 And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.” (Revelation 22:5 KJV). When GOD and Christ abide with us, we have everything we need. Choose to show your love by obeying Jesus today. Try Him. Take Him at His word and see if He and the Father won’t come and make their home with you giving you the best life you could ever hope to imagine for. Be blessed, Family!

“24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, 25 To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.” (Jude 24-25 KJV).

How to be Saved

Romans 10: 9-13

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved (KJV).

9 If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved. 11 As the Scriptures tell us, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.” 12 Jew and Gentile are the same in this respect. They have the same Lord, who gives generously to all who call on him. 13 For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (NLT).

Say the welcoming word to God—“Jesus is my Master”—embracing, body and soul, God’s work of doing in us what he did in raising Jesus from the dead. That’s it. You’re not “doing” anything; you’re simply calling out to God, trusting him to do it for you. That’s salvation. With your whole being you embrace God setting things right, and then you say it, right out loud: “God has set everything right between him and me!” 11-13 Scripture reassures us, “No one who trusts God like this—heart and soul—will ever regret it.” It’s exactly the same no matter what a person’s religious background may be: the same God for all of us, acting the same incredibly generous way to everyone who calls out for help. “Everyone who calls, ‘Help, God!’ gets help. (MSG).

Romans 5:8

8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (KJV)

8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. (NLT)

It is your belief that saves you, family. If you believe, you will speak what you believe and not be ashamed or embarrassed to do so, whether you are alone or among others. Simply talk to GOD. Say aloud to the LORD:

“I confess all my sin known and unknown, and ask You, GOD, to forgive me. I believe Jesus was born of a virgin, crucified, died for my sins, and rose from the dead. Jesus, come into my heart and make me new in You. Save me, Lord! Jesus, you are Lord. Be Lord over my life. Thank You, GOD for Your forgiveness. Thank You, Jesus, for making me Your own. Amen.”

You are now saved. You may not feel different or you may. Just know that the internal change is taking place once you uttered that prayer in faith. Day by day, you will begin to be transformed into whom GOD wants and created you to be. You will care more about the things of GOD than your own personal desires, and you will want to share the word of GOD when you have the opportunity. Begin to read your bible daily, and learn about GOD's will for your life. If you are not already a member of a local church, I encourage you to pray and allow GOD to guide you to the right fellowship for you. The pastor will help you grow in your gifts and talents so that you can begin to use them for GOD’s glory, and you and the other members will encourage and help each other along this journey with GOD.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
