HE Trains My Hands for War

“Praise the Lord, who is my rock. He trains my hands for war and gives my fingers skill for battle.” (Psalm 144:1 New Living Translation).

Praise the LORD! For, it is GOD who teaches us how to fight these battles we face on a daily basis: depression, anger, anxiety, hopelessness, greed, pride, sickness, lack, impatience, and the list goes on. Look at this list of behaviors in the book of Galatians.

“19 When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, 21 envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.” (Galatians 5:19-21 NLT).

That’s a lot! Some of us today are dealing with alcoholism, fornication, adultery, witchcraft, arguing all the time, partying all the time, believing the lie that we only have one life to live so we should live it doing what we want, disregarding GOD’s will for our lives. Jesus says what does it matter if we gain the whole world and get everything our hearts desire only to lose our souls in the end (Matthew 16:26).

Nevertheless, these temptations are real. These vices are real. They knock at our door daily seeking our attention. It’s a fight. Thankfully, GOD has equipped us.

“3 We are human, but we don’t wage war as humans do. 4 We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. 5 We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10:3-5 NLT).

Did y’all read that?! Yes, we’re human, but we don’t use human weapons! Guns, and physical force will do nothing to stop us from doing the things that we know don’t benefit us. This is a spiritual battle. Satan is fighting for control of our minds, and he knows just how to tempt us with the things we like. BUT GOD!!!!

In Hebrew, that word trains from Psalm 144 is also translated as teaches, and it means to goad. A goad is a sharp stick that is used to make animals move forward. This means that GOD uses these temptations, HE uses the hard times of life to train us, to spur us forward. When we want to quit, the Holy Spirit inside us tells us what to do. Do we listen? That sharp prick in our hearts that tells us to apologize, do we apologize? That voice telling you to keep going past the liquor store, to lose that person’s number, to get into the bible and find the promises of GOD; do we listen?

These are our spiritual weapons. The word of GOD gives us promises to stand on in the face of temptation. Look at what Paul says specifically about escaping the temptation. “13 The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.”

(1 Corinthians 10:13 NLT).

If we’re honest with ourselves, we know GOD gives us a way out all the way up until we do what we knew we shouldn’t have. Remember, we are free will creatures. GOD has promised an open door out of all of our temptations. Will we walk through it?

We are promised peace if we pray and give our worries to GOD (Philippians 4:6-7). We are promised that if we seek GOD and HIS righteousness above the things of this world HE will give us everything that we need (Matthew 6:33). We are promised the desires of our heart as we delight ourselves in the LORD (Psalm 37:4). Are we willing to go to GOD with our desires and allow HIM to give us what we want in HIS way and in HIS time?

Why do we drink alcohol, smoke, do drugs? Why do we knowingly put that poison into our bodies? Why do we have affairs? Why do we find excuses to be angry and lash out at others? What are we looking for in those things? What are we trying to numb or escape from? Will we take that thing to GOD and allow the LORD to counsel us? HE will tell us what to pray, what to read, even who to call. Or, if HE chooses, HE will have someone call us! GOD can also deliver us right there in that moment if HE chooses to do it that way. The bottom line is that whatever our temptation is, GOD can lead us away from it and towards HIM. I am a living witness to the power of GOD taking the desire for things not like HIM away, and replacing it with joy in HIS presence, and new found purpose for my life. Will you use the weapon of prayer today? Will you ask GOD to deliver you according to HIS word?

“11 You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever.” (Psalm 16:11 NLT).

Pray to the LORD! Pray HIS word back to HIM. Ask HIM to show you the way of life, of true living, not what we think living is, popping bottles, having sex, getting high, partying all the time, living the night life, living for that next outfit or pair of shoes or accessory, or trip, or just doing whatever we want to do when we feel like doing it. Contrary to what we may believe, that’s not living. Those are examples of the temptations of this world set before us by satan to get our minds off of the things of GOD. The devil is smiling and laughing while we are killing ourselves, and living a life caught up in materialism. I desire nice things. I desire financial freedom. I desire good health. I also desire for GOD to give me those things HIS way, because HIS will for my life is exponentially better than what I could ever imagine for myself.

If we pray, GOD will answer. HE will show us the way of life. HE will grant us the joy of HIS presence. That right there! The joy of HIS presence! There is nothing like being in the presence of GOD. Don’t take my word for it. Ask HIM right now to give you the joy of being in HIS presence, and you will experience the pleasures of living with GOD forever. Once you have HIM, or more accurately, once you give yourself to HIM so that HE has you, HE’ll never leave you nor forsake you (Joshua 1:5, 9). HE is our GOD forever, and we are forever HIS people to the glory of GOD. Hallelujah!

Won’t you call on the LORD today? HE is waiting. “13 For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Romans 10:13 NLT).

27 All glory to the only wise God, through Jesus Christ, forever. Amen.” (Romans 16:27 NLT).

How to be Saved

Romans 10: 9-13

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved (KJV).

9 If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved. 11 As the Scriptures tell us, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.” 12 Jew and Gentile are the same in this respect. They have the same Lord, who gives generously to all who call on him. 13 For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (NLT).

Say the welcoming word to God—“Jesus is my Master”—embracing, body and soul, God’s work of doing in us what he did in raising Jesus from the dead. That’s it. You’re not “doing” anything; you’re simply calling out to God, trusting him to do it for you. That’s salvation. With your whole being you embrace God setting things right, and then you say it, right out loud: “God has set everything right between him and me!” 11-13 Scripture reassures us, “No one who trusts God like this—heart and soul—will ever regret it.” It’s exactly the same no matter what a person’s religious background may be: the same God for all of us, acting the same incredibly generous way to everyone who calls out for help. “Everyone who calls, ‘Help, God!’ gets help. (MSG).

Romans 5:8

8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (KJV)

8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. (NLT)

It is your belief that saves you, family. If you believe, you will speak what you believe and not be ashamed or embarrassed to do so, whether you are alone or among others. Simply talk to GOD. Say aloud to God:

“I confess all my sin, known and unknown, and ask You, GOD to forgive me. I believe Jesus was born of a virgin, crucified, died for my sins, and rose from the dead. I want Jesus to come into my heart to make me new in Him. I believe Jesus is Lord over my life and over everything that exists. Thank You, GOD for Your forgiveness. Thank You, Jesus, for making me Your own. Amen.”

You are now saved. You may not feel different or you may. Just know that the internal change is taking place once you uttered that prayer in faith. Day by day, you will begin to be transformed into whom GOD wants and created you to be. You will care more about the things of GOD than your own personal desires, and you will want to share the word of GOD when you have the opportunity. Begin to read your bible daily, and learn about GOD's will for your life. If you are not already a member of a local church, I encourage you to pray and allow GOD to guide you to the right fellowship for you. The pastor will help you grow in your gifts and talents so that you can begin to use them for GOD’s glory, and you and the other members will encourage and help each other along this journey with GOD.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
