GOD Calls Us Friend

LORD, you loved us enough to shield us from death while you put your Son on the front lines in our place. Thank you.

“13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13 King James Version).

GOD calls us friends.

“7 Art not thou our God, who didst drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend for ever?” (2 Chronicles 20:7 KJV).

“8 But thou, Israel, art my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham my friend.” (Isaiah 41:8 KJV).

We are many things to GOD: HIS creation, servants, slaves, ministers, a holy nation, a priesthood, children, but we are also GOD’s friends. “23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.” (James 2:23 KJV). Our belief gives us friendship status, our faith, our trust in GOD, the fact that we believe HE will do what HE says, and that HE is Whom HE is.

We are GOD’s friend because we believe HE loved us and saved us while we were yet sinners (Romans 5:8). But, once again, we became friends of GOD once we believed in HIM.

We are also friends of GOD and Christ when we obey HIS commands. “14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.” (John 15:14 KJV). We trust that GOD has our best interests in mind, and we put our lives into HIS hands willingly.

“15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.” (John 15:15 KJV).

Jesus also confirms us as friends because He shares inside information with us. He confides in us, and lets us in on the conversations that GOD has with HIM! My GOD!

The Greek word for friend, as it is used here, means dear, friend, and fond of. The dictionary further defines a friend as one attached to another by affection, fondness, or esteem, someone not hostile, a favored companion.

This is how GOD and Jesus feel about us. We are their favored companions. They love to spend time with us. We are very dear to them. They mean us good and not harm.

To have a relationship with the Creator is like no other. Words of explanation will not suffice. Friendship with GOD has to be experienced to understand. Only when we have been taken from being a wretch in the gutter at the lowest point of our lives, to being cleaned up by GOD and made fit for the Master’s use only by HIS grace, then and only then will we begin to understand the depth of GOD’s love for us and what being a friend of GOD means.

We’ve learned that belief and obedience cause us to be friends of GOD. Let’s show ourselves friendly today and believe in and obey the GOD Who saved us. “24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.” (Proverbs 18:24 KJV).

“18 Brethren, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.” (Galatians 6:18 KJV).

How to be Saved

Romans 10: 9-13

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved (KJV).

9 If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved. 11 As the Scriptures tell us, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.” 12 Jew and Gentile are the same in this respect. They have the same Lord, who gives generously to all who call on him. 13 For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (NLT).

Say the welcoming word to God—“Jesus is my Master”—embracing, body and soul, God’s work of doing in us what he did in raising Jesus from the dead. That’s it. You’re not “doing” anything; you’re simply calling out to God, trusting him to do it for you. That’s salvation. With your whole being you embrace God setting things right, and then you say it, right out loud: “God has set everything right between him and me!” 11-13 Scripture reassures us, “No one who trusts God like this—heart and soul—will ever regret it.” It’s exactly the same no matter what a person’s religious background may be: the same God for all of us, acting the same incredibly generous way to everyone who calls out for help. “Everyone who calls, ‘Help, God!’ gets help. (MSG).

Romans 5:8

8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (KJV)

8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. (NLT)

It is your belief that saves you, family. If you believe, you will speak what you believe and not be ashamed or embarrassed to do so, whether you are alone or among others. Simply talk to GOD. Say aloud to God:

“I confess all my sin known and unknown, and ask You, GOD, to forgive me. I believe Jesus was born of a virgin, crucified, died for my sins, and rose from the dead. Jesus, come into my heart and make me new in You. Save me, Lord! Jesus, you are Lord. Be Lord over my life. Thank You, GOD for Your forgiveness. Thank You, Jesus, for making me Your own. Amen.”

You are now saved. You may not feel different or you may. Just know that the internal change is taking place once you uttered that prayer in faith. Day by day, you will begin to be transformed into whom GOD wants and created you to be. You will care more about the things of GOD than your own personal desires, and you will want to share the word of GOD when you have the opportunity. Begin to read your bible daily, and learn about GOD's will for your life. If you are not already a member of a local church, I encourage you to pray and allow GOD to guide you to the right fellowship for you. The pastor will help you grow in your gifts and talents so that you can begin to use them for GOD’s glory, and you and the other members will encourage and help each other along this journey with GOD.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
