Blessed Assurance

Whatever GOD said to you will come to pass in your life. If you doubt it, go to HIM. Talk with GOD about how you’re feeling. Don’t decide to sin and figure it out on your own, and go against GOD’s word. It will not end well.

We fear that the life we were promised will not come to pass, but if GOD said it, it shall happen. “19 God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?” (Numbers 23:19 New International Version).

We also understand that we cannot put GOD in a box. HE won’t fit. GOD is sovereign. That means HE is the ruler of everything. HE can change HIS mind whenever it suits HIM, but the verse is pointing out that GOD is not wishy washy. HE doesn’t change HIS mind like we do, feeling this way one second and that way another. GOD is consistently consistent at being HIMSELF, and what HE determines or speaks to us will happen.

Let’s look at the story of Solomon and Jeroboam to further illustrate this. Solomon was the son of the famous King David. He was the wisest man in all the earth because GOD gave him unparalleled wisdom when he asked for it. Yet, with all of his wisdom, he still disobeyed GOD. According to the bible in 1 Kings 11, Solomon had many foreign wives who turned his heart away from GOD because they did not worship the LORD. So, out of love for his wives, he began to build shrines to their gods, and began to worship them as well. Because of this, GOD took the kingdom away from him and gave it to Jeroboam, one of Solomon’s officials.

This is what the LORD said to Jeroboam through the man of GOD. “ 30 and Ahijah took hold of the new cloak he was wearing and tore it into twelve pieces. 31 Then he said to Jeroboam, “Take ten pieces for yourself, for this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘See, I am going to tear the kingdom out of Solomon’s hand and give you ten tribes.” (1 Kings 11:30-31 NIV).

No matter what, this was going to take place. GOD even gives more confirmation.

“37 However, as for you, I will take you, and you will rule over all that your heart desires; you will be king over Israel. 38 If you do whatever I command you and walk in obedience to me and do what is right in my eyes by obeying my decrees and commands, as David my servant did, I will be with you. I will build you a dynasty as enduring as the one I built for David and will give Israel to you.” (1 Kings 11:37-38 NIV).

Unfortunately, Jeroboam allows circumstances to make him afraid. Look at what he thinks and does. How powerful thoughts are! Let's make sure we think about the things of GOD and not focus on the problems of the world. Thought = action. Thinking GOD thoughts will lead to godly actions. Thinking worldly thoughts will lead to worldly actions that go against GOD' will for our lives.

“26 Jeroboam thought to himself, ‘The kingdom will now likely revert to the house of David. 27 If these people go up to offer sacrifices at the temple of the Lord in Jerusalem, they will again give their allegiance to their lord, Rehoboam king of Judah. They will kill me and return to King Rehoboam.’ “ (1 Kings 12:26-27 NIV).

Look at what he does after following his line of thought.

“28 After seeking advice, the king made two golden calves. He said to the people, “It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem. Here are your gods, Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt.” 30 And this thing became a sin; the people came to worship the one at Bethel and went as far as Dan to worship the other.” (1 Kings 12:28, 30 NIV).

To make matters worse, he received bad advice. What made it bad? They told him to do something that went against GOD’s laws. If GOD tells us that we will rule, then we will. If we have to get advice from someone because things are getting tough, let it be from a person of GOD who will guide us in a godly direction. Taking advice from a worldly point of view will yield worldly results and take us out of GOD’s favor. Let’s watch who we’re listening to. Or, better yet, let's go to GOD first and tell HIM how worried and scared we are. Taking counsel from the LORD beats man’s counsel every time.

Notice, this is the same sin that Aaron committed when the people pressured him to make them a god because they didn’t know what had happened to Moses after he had been on the mountain talking to GOD for more than a month, and they received no word about whether he was dead or alive (Exodus 32:1).

Just like those people were unsure about what happened to Moses, Jeroboam was unsure about what would happen to him. In both cases, trust in GOD had faltered. The people reverted to the life they knew before GOD. This was a life of slavery in Egypt where they were used to being around foreign gods. We see that this mindset has not entirely left Israel.

What old mindsets do we revert to in times of trouble? Do we go back to our old ways when things get tough, instead of seeking the GOD who has us where we are? GOD led Israel to Mt. Sinai. GOD put Jeroboam in power. Has GOD placed you somewhere, and now you’re encountering difficulty in that place?

Go back to the GOD that put you there. Seek HIM. You will find HIM (Matthew 7:7-8). Cry out to HIM, he will hear you (Psalm 120:1). Get advice from the only one who can save you. He will deliver you out of all your troubles and destructive mindsets (Psalm 50:15).

Otherwise, we may end up like Jeroboam.

"33 Even after this, Jeroboam did not change his evil ways, but once more appointed priests for the high places from all sorts of people. Anyone who wanted to become a priest he consecrated for the high places. 34 This was the sin of the house of Jeroboam that led to its downfall and to its destruction from the face of the earth.” (1 Kings 13:33-34 NIV).

Even after all of Jeroboam’s sins, GOD still gave him a chance to repent. He sent a prophet to tell him and show him how displeased GOD was with what he was doing. Has GOD sent a person to speak to us about how wrong we have been. Has someone spoken the truth to us, not out of spite, but because they were sent from GOD to give us a chance to repent, to change our ways? Let’s examine our lives, family; and heed the warning signs. Let’s get with GOD and let HIM explain everything to us, casting our cares upon HIM because HE cares for us (1 Peter 5:7).

GOD has made us great and precious promises. Let’s call upon those promises to be answered. Remember, GOD is not human so HE doesn’t change HIS mind and go back on HIS word like we do. HE will always be there. May we have the courage and strength to believe that. May we not end up like Jeroboam and be destroyed off of the face of the earth. May we not perish in our unbelief. May we simply trust in the GOD who allowed HIS Son to be killed for us so that we could all be free to enjoy the relationship between ourselves and a loving heavenly Father who wants nothing but the best for us.

“ ‘ 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.’ “ (Joshua 1:9 NIV).

“16 Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.” (2 Thessalonians 3:16 NIV). Amen (may it be fulfilled, it is so).

How to be Saved

Romans 10: 9-13

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved (KJV).

9 If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved. 11 As the Scriptures tell us, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.” 12 Jew and Gentile are the same in this respect. They have the same Lord, who gives generously to all who call on him. 13 For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (NLT).

Say the welcoming word to God—“Jesus is my Master”—embracing, body and soul, God’s work of doing in us what he did in raising Jesus from the dead. That’s it. You’re not “doing” anything; you’re simply calling out to God, trusting him to do it for you. That’s salvation. With your whole being you embrace God setting things right, and then you say it, right out loud: “God has set everything right between him and me!” 11-13 Scripture reassures us, “No one who trusts God like this—heart and soul—will ever regret it.” It’s exactly the same no matter what a person’s religious background may be: the same God for all of us, acting the same incredibly generous way to everyone who calls out for help. “Everyone who calls, ‘Help, God!’ gets help. (MSG).

Romans 5:8

8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (KJV)

8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. (NLT)

It is your belief that saves you, family. If you believe, you will speak what you believe and not be ashamed or embarrassed to do so, whether you are alone or among others. Simply talk to GOD. Say aloud to God:

“I confess all my sin known and unknown, and ask You, GOD, to forgive me. I believe Jesus was born of a virgin, crucified, died for my sins, and rose from the dead. Jesus, come into my heart and make me new in You. Save me, Lord! Jesus, you are Lord. Be Lord over my life. Thank You, GOD for Your forgiveness. Thank You, Jesus, for making me Your own. Amen.”

You are now saved. You may not feel different or you may. Just know that the internal change is taking place once you uttered that prayer in faith. Day by day, you will begin to be transformed into whom GOD wants and created you to be. You will care more about the things of GOD than your own personal desires, and you will want to share the word of GOD when you have the opportunity. Begin to read your bible daily, and learn about GOD's will for your life. If you are not already a member of a local church, I encourage you to pray and allow GOD to guide you to the right fellowship for you. The pastor will help you grow in your gifts and talents so that you can begin to use them for GOD’s glory, and you and the other members will encourage and help each other along this journey with GOD.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
