A Turned Heart

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS . . . REPENT: FOR THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN IS AT HAND.

A Turned Heart

King Solomon, however, loved many foreign women besides Pharaoh’s daughter—Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians and Hittites. 2 They were from nations about which the Lord had told the Israelites, “You must not intermarry with them, because they will surely turn your hearts after their gods.” Nevertheless, Solomon held fast to them in love. 3 He had seven hundred wives of royal birth and three hundred concubines, and his wives led him astray. 4 As Solomon grew old, his wives turned his heart after other gods, and his heart was not fully devoted to the Lord his God, as the heart of David his father had been. (1 Kings 11:1-4 New International Version).

What has turned your heart from fully following GOD? What have we tapped into that GOD told us to leave alone? For Solomon, it was the love of many foreign women who did not know or worship GOD. The problem with this, is that these women led him away from GOD because GOD was not Whom they worshiped nor cared about. What is it for you, television, sports, love for a man, woman, or child, drugs, money, sex, a job, fame, etc? What do we love more than GOD?

This passage of scripture, like so many in the bible, is a cautionary tale. It’s a warning to us to not travel down the same path. As a result of his disobedience, Solomon lost the kingdom that should have been passed to his son, even though it would not happen until he died and it was his son’s turn to rule.

He ruined the legacy for his children. What are we ruining for our children, our loved ones? What legacy, that GOD has planned for us, are we putting in jeopardy because we have an attitude of disregard for GOD’s commands?

11 So the Lord said to Solomon, “Since this is your attitude and you have not kept my covenant and my decrees, which I commanded you, I will most certainly tear the kingdom away from you and give it to one of your subordinates. 12 Nevertheless, for the sake of David your father, I will not do it during your lifetime. I will tear it out of the hand of your son. (1 Kings 11:11-12 NIV).

LESSON: we can have everything we want within the boundaries of GOD.

4 As for you, if you walk before me faithfully with integrity of heart and uprightness, as David your father did, and do all I command and observe my decrees and laws, 5 I will establish your royal throne over Israel forever, as I promised David your father when I said, ‘You shall never fail to have a successor on the throne of Israel. (1 Kings 9:4-5 NIV).

The terms of the agreement: do what you’re supposed to do before ME. Be faithful to ME at all times. Do the right thing. Do everything I tell you to do, and obey the laws that I have already established. Do this, and you and your family will rule over Israel forever, with all the wealth, wisdom, and privileges that come with that.

GOD is telling us the same thing. “33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:33 NIV). Do things GOD’s way, according to the LORD’s rules, seek GOD’s presence and be influenced and swayed by it. If we do this, we will have everything we need and then some.

Don’t take my word for it, try it for yourselves. Some of us have been working our fingers to the bone, chasing after the life we want, being tired day after day, seeking everyone and everything but the LORD to help us in our endeavors. It’s time to try something different. Let’s get back to basics.

29 “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” (Mark 12:29-31 NIV).

Let’s get back to loving our Creator. Being loyal to the ONE who made us, gifted us, and enabled us to operate in our talents to bring GOD glory. Let’s be kind to our fellow humans who are made in the image of GOD just like us. Do this, and watch GOD move. If we turn our hearts back to GOD, we will find ourselves established forever, leaving a legacy that will never end. Be blessed, family.

24 To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy— 25 to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen. (Jude 24-25 NIV).

How to be Saved

Romans 10: 9-13

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved (KJV).

9 If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved. 11 As the Scriptures tell us, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.” 12 Jew and Gentile are the same in this respect. They have the same Lord, who gives generously to all who call on him. 13 For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (NLT).

Say the welcoming word to God—“Jesus is my Master”—embracing, body and soul, God’s work of doing in us what he did in raising Jesus from the dead. That’s it. You’re not “doing” anything; you’re simply calling out to God, trusting him to do it for you. That’s salvation. With your whole being you embrace God setting things right, and then you say it, right out loud: “God has set everything right between him and me!” 11-13 Scripture reassures us, “No one who trusts God like this—heart and soul—will ever regret it.” It’s exactly the same no matter what a person’s religious background may be: the same God for all of us, acting the same incredibly generous way to everyone who calls out for help. “Everyone who calls, ‘Help, God!’ gets help. (MSG).

Romans 5:8

8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (KJV)

8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. (NLT)

It is your belief that saves you, family. If you believe, you will speak what you believe and not be ashamed or embarrassed to do so, whether you are alone or among others. Simply talk to GOD. Say aloud to the LORD:

“I confess all my sin known and unknown, and ask You, GOD, to forgive me. I believe Jesus was born of a virgin, crucified, died for my sins, and rose from the dead. Jesus, come into my heart and make me new in You. Save me, Lord! Jesus, you are Lord. Be Lord over my life. Thank You, GOD for Your forgiveness. Thank You, Jesus, for making me Your own. Amen.”

You are now saved. You may not feel different or you may. Just know that the internal change is taking place once you uttered that prayer in faith. Day by day, you will begin to be transformed into whom GOD wants and created you to be. You will care more about the things of GOD than your own personal desires, and you will want to share the word of GOD when you have the opportunity. Begin to read your bible daily, and learn about GOD's will for your life. If you are not already a member of a local church, I encourage you to pray and allow GOD to guide you to the right fellowship for you. The pastor will help you grow in your gifts and talents so that you can begin to use them for GOD’s glory, and you and the other members will encourage and help each other along this journey with GOD.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
